Singapore vs Uzbekistan

1st Leg (National Stadium) - Singapore 3 Uzbekistan 7

2nd Leg (Tashkent) - Uzbekistan 1 Singapore 0

Quite a sharp contrast eh? Inami, gab and i were at the national stadium to catch the lions in action..and frankly it was amazing the way the goals flowed like water from a tap. Singapore did very well to fight back to draw 2-2 when they were down..but then that was it...after that, it all went haywire and our defence was simply pathetic that night. Rather strange esp when u consider our defence is supposed to be our forte. And we had foreign-born players in our squad too (7 in total)...i shudder to think what the score will be like if we didnt have them....they are actually not bad, though heart stopping moments seem to be rather common whenever precious emuejeraye (nigeria) is anywhere near the action....

Ok la but at least singapore didnt just give up, they were still fighting hard even though they were trailing by 4 goals. It was at least better than that memorable 4-0 thrashing at the hands of malaysia back in 2002. And the uzbeks kept feigning injuries to waste time...apparently one guy even wrote in to the forum to say that he saw one uzbek player, who was lying on the floor for a long while, promptly JUMP up when singapore counter attacked....

And i think singapore did v well in the second leg, narrowly losing out, conceeding in the 80th min. If only they had hung on, and if only they had played better defensively in the first leg...

But there goes another world cup dream for us sporeans. Goal 2010 is out of the target. I wonder if we will ever see world cup action....
