Be Silent and Listen

Its the season to be jolly. But one must also take time to think, ponder and reflect. In a busy bustling city like spore and with the commercialization of christmas, its sometimes hard to remember to do the above. Recently i was reading 2 blogs, that of my sis and the other my friend's, and both were surprisingly reflective. Well ok perhaps not so much for my sis, but for my friend's blog, it was quite surprising to read a reflective piece. I will 'borrow'' what my sis wrote down on her blog, hope she doesnt mind..., where she quoted a late well-respected person.

We all must take the time to be silent and to contemplate, especially those who live in big cities like London and New York, where everything moves so fast. This is why I decided to open our first home for contemplative sisters (whose vocation is to pray most of the day) in New York instead of the Himalayas: I felt silence and contemplation were needed more in the cities of the world.

For the other blog, my friend blogged about her experience at this event to help aid and reach out to the deaf community in spore. I quote her (hope she dosent mind): "sometimes i wonder wat we ordinary fortunate pp are always complaining abt when we are blessed w good health to enjoy e music+colour+simplejoys of life. many of e handicapped pp i encountered today seem more cheerful n happier than us".

To sum up, what Mother Teresa said is true. Its only in the silence that one can hear clearly. Take a moment to reflect. Christmas is the time for loved ones, family and friends, and basically thats the whole point behind the giving of gifts to one another. (though of course it does boost e economy) We should be grateful for our family and friends, some pple in the world dont even have this privilege of having them, both physically and for some, relationshipwise. You need not look further than the region. Just look at Indonesia's tsunami impact where many pple lost loved ones, family and friends.

Now's the time to give, not demand. Its time to think, really think. There are plenty of less fortunate pple in our society and the world, but many of them are more contented and happy. Be silent and listen. Dont be deaf to the plight of these pple. Similarly dont be deaf to ur loved ones, family and friends. Be grateful, happy and lets all spread the joy this season...
